'Getting Prepared' Wild Event
This online event is to fundraise for 2 wildlife related causes: UK Wildlife Transporters & Celandine Wood Animal Rescue.
Celandine Wood Animal Rescue was started by Veterinary Surgeon, Sharon, who is also the Partner Vet at Medivet Heswall, alongside her amazing team. Sharon and her team - and a great number of committed volunteers - work around the clock, all year, to help poorly & injured wildlife (amongst a lot of other companion animals).
UKWT has taken a lot of wildlife over the years to Sharon, at Medivet Heswall, and we have chosen to run this event, to fundraise not only for our own efforts but to raise money for and support Celandine Wood Animal Rescue, as they are going through a significant phase in their growth and expansion, to be in a position to help many 1000s more animals, now & into the future.
I have seen Sharon's care and commitment for myself, innumerable times since 2020, and I hope that this event will help to support her & her team to continue their incredible work.
50% of ticket sales from this event will go to UKWT and 50% will go to Celandine Wood Animal Rescue. Read on to find out more...
Getting Prepared: Offering Emergency Assistance To A UK Wildlife Casualty/Orphan...
Why am I holding this event & how do I know what I'm talking about?
Running UK Wildlife Transporters for 4 years now, we have received the same types of calls, from people who have found wildlife casualties/orphans, many 1000s of times. In most cases, the callers have been trying for hours (sometimes for days) to get the basic information that this event is offering (where to find help and what to do for the animal in the meantime). In a lot of cases, the wrong food had already been given to the casualty, while the caller tried to find help (sometimes any food/water at all is wrong) and the casualties had been kept in inappropriate conditions that had lessened their chances of survival. All of this is preventable as long as you are prepared when you find a wildlife casualty.
In a lot of cases, due to the time it took to find help and the wrong care being given (with the best of intentions) the casualties/orphans didn't survive, when they might have done if the caller had been prepared and had found the right help a lot faster.
The aim of this event is to make sure that you're prepared to help a wildlife casualty/orphan (when one almost inevitably appears at some point in your life) so that it is a speedy and rewarding experience, for yourself and hopefully the animal too.
To make this event affordable to all, you can set your own ticket price (as a donation).

"I really liked the 'Getting Prepared To Help Wildlife' event. As I'm an admin on 4 bird/wildlife groups, I already know the basics of what needs to be done but it's always good to be able to learn new things that you may not have thought about and like Alana said we need to be there for the animal and not just think about ourselves.
It was good that Alana gave us the opportunity to chat to and ask her questions.
What I really love are the illustrations because I'm a visual learner and sometimes a photo can work better for me than reading text. I think it would draw young people too as they love anything visual with bright colours like myself.
I also find the WILDLIFE CARE BADGE map really useful too as I can share that with finders so they can check if there is a wildlife rescue in their area.
Please think about booking onto the next event to make everyone aware of what can and needs to be done."

“Thank you so much for your informative talk. It was extremely enjoyable and very detailed.
You can see how much care, time and dedication has gone into the work Alana does to create awareness in how to correctly care for our wildlife in emergency situations to get them the best possible help.
It’s a well needed approach forwards to helping and saving our important wildlife as numbers continue to drop. I feel it is also a great tool to use to teach children from a young age the appropriate way in which we should handle and care for sick and orphaned wild animals correctly.
Thank you for the further time you spent personally answering any questions I had. Alana really did go far out and beyond. I very much recommend anyone whom is not sure to try it out. You won’t be disappointed! I really look forward to any further talks you may have in the future. Lu x”
